- The record, which features a remix from Underground Resistance, arrives November 25th.
Detroit-based producer Waajeed is debuting on Tresor with a new album.
Arriving November 25th on digital and vinyl, Memoirs Of Hi-Tech Jazz draws from the deep musical lineages of Detroit jazz and techno, with a remix from Underground Resistance, plus contributions from saxophonist De'Sean Jones and vocalists Black Nix and Wanika K. Stephens, the Archpriest Reverend of the Church of John Coltrane in San Francisco.
Across 12 tracks, the album explores themes of Black leisure and play, while pulling inspiration from the Black revolutionary efforts against oppressive systems in Detroit and beyond.
The album is Waajeed's first since his 2018 LP, From The Dirt, released on his own label, Dirt Tech Reck. In 2015 he founded the Underground Music Academy, acquiring a historic building that once served as the headquarters for the NAACP in Detroit's North End. In 2020, he began releasing the Acts Of Love mixtape series, using the proceeds to fund construction of the academy's physical space. Originally planning to open the building in 2022, the UMA website says the organization now looks to do so in 2023.
