- The campaign seeks to raise $15,000 to help her and her mother with relocation, health care, transportation and overall quality of life.
Members of the New York City dance music community have launched a GoFundMe to support DJ Sybil Jason as she and her mother face ongoing health issues and housing insecurity.
The campaign seeks to raise $15,000 to help her and her mom with relocation, health care, transportation and overall quality of life. At the time of publication, the campaign has raised $7,210.
"For months now, Sybil and her mom have been facing a negligent and racist landlord attempting to displace their family in their home for nearly 30 years," the campaign reads. "However, they have begun to show the apartment to unmasked strangers without warning since January and continue neglecting unsafe conditions, which caused Sybil's mother to sustain an injury at home. These apartment showings have been incredibly disruptive, placing two high-risk people in danger.
"In addition, Sybil's existing chronic illness has been exacerbated by the circumstances with a recent brain injury," the post continues. "As the sole source of representation and support in the family, the confluence of all these stressors has continued to deteriorate her health and well-being and made financial recourse incredibly difficult."
A longstanding member and cultural contributor of New York City's dance music community, Sybil has performed at such events as The Bunker's 19th Anniversary party, Fourth World 2021, Umfang's Technofeminism series, Atonal and many more, as well as maintaining the blog and radio show FARCED since 2006.
