  • Regina Baer, cofounder of Tresor, Kraftwerk and other Berlin institutions, has died. According to a statement posted by Tresor and authored by fellow founder Dimitri Hegemann, Baer died on July 21st after a long fight with an undisclosed "serious illness." Hegemann's statement credits Baer not just with Tresor's creation but subsequent venues and projects, including the nonprofit Tresor Foundation. He said "the history of... Berlin's entire nightlife would be different without her; without her energy, drive, vision, creativity, discipline and ability to carry others along with her and motivate them." Baer managed the Globus and Tresor clubs from 1991 through 2005, according to Hegemann, and then played a large role in the bigger Kraftwerk venue, "even as her battle with her illness began." He added: "To me, her advice was always the most important and when I didn't listen to her, it often turned out to be a mistake. Her true spirit was as compelling as it was contagious, as witnessed by countless artists, Tresor-goers, co-workers and friends. She was a great, loving mother who, despite sometimes crazy hours and times working on our shared projects, was always there for her children and never forgot those who were most important to her. Her death tears a painful hole in our lives." Another Tresor post, from last year, also credits Baer with helping to establish Tresor's signature industrial vibe. "30 years ago, Dimitri Hegemann brought his friend Regina Baer to the recently discovered abandoned vault of an unused department store on Leipzigerstrasse," the statement said. "They discussed the ideas around starting a nightclub. When entering the Tresor room, Regina looked over at Dimitri and said: 'Alles so lassen' ('Leave everything as it is')."
