Animistic Beliefs' new album, Merdeka, explores post-colonial generational trauma

- Animistic Beliefs, AKA Linh Luu and Marvin Lalihatu, are releasing their second album. Arriving via Mexico City-based label NAAFI on August 26th, Merdeka sees the Rotterdam-based duo departing from Western club music as they explore their respective cultural heritages, childhood memories and post-colonial generational trauma. Across ten tracks of fast techno, breakbeats and Southeast Asian tribal music, Luu and Lalihatu incorporate Indonesian scales and a range of Moluccan instruments. Merdeka, the duo's second album, follows their 2019 debut, Mindset:Reset, on Solar One Music.
