New York-based producer and DJ Savile is launching a label in collaboration with Brian Okarski under their new joint production alias, Heavy Water.
Arriving June 7th, the first release on [ark] is Brainclouds, a 104-minute mixtape spanning more than 15 genres, including jazz, house, hardcore, breaks, trip hop, IDM and experimental ambient.
The mixtape was "constructed with the amount of focus and care that you would use to construct an album," Savile told Resident Advisor. "It's made in the style of '90s cassette mixtapes... an open-format mix with narrative arc."
Going forward, [ark] will release a series of digital singles, a trip-hop album and a cassette reissue of Savile's 2021 EP, Hyperempathy. Heavy Water also plan to sell merch.
Brainclouds follows Savile's JIL EP, which they re-released in August 2021 after its original 2017 release on the now-defunct Argot Records.
