Legendary UK dub producer Adrian Sherwood has a new album on the way.
Featuring some of the genre's top international women vocalists, Dub No Frontiers spans ten tracks of reggae and dub. With co-production from the late Lincoln 'Style' Scott, the record includes vocals from artists like Rita Morar, Likkle Mai, Maria Wenda and JaGodDa. It arrives July 22nd via Sherwood's On-U Sound on digital and limited-edition black vinyl, with an accompanying 12-page booklet of paintings by artist Peter Harris depicting prominent women in literature, politics, law, civil rights and medicine.
"Many of the singers said they felt the dub/reggae arena was a male preserve and a little intimidating even," said the On-U Sound founder. "So we decided to invite artists to write and perform a song of their choice, all with non-English lyrics on our rhythm tracks."
"Female artists not only singing but writing in their indigenous languages is incredibly powerful," co-producer Kerieva McCormick said. "It's rare that indigenous music is given a platform at all and Adrian has really opened up opportunities with this project."
Sherwood hopes to eventually turn Dub No Frontiers into a touring live act with an all-woman band. The album follows Sherwood and The NJE's 2019 collaborative album Afloat In Dub, which came out via Sartorial Records, and a pair of remixes on Emergency Hearts in 2022.
