  • A new exhibition about grime is opening at the Museum of London this summer. Launching on June 17th, Grime Stories: From The Corner To The Mainstream will explore the communities at the heart of grime's success, with a focus on its birth place in East London 20 years ago. The exhibition includes films, a large-scale illustration from Willkay and personal artefacts from key artists. The films include Roony "Risky Roadz" Keefe—who co-produced the exhibition and whose freestyle DVDs were seminal to grime's growth—driving around East London with Jammer, Practice Hours' Troy "A+" Miller and Rapid and Slix from Ruff Sqwad. A piece made in collaboration with Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation centres emerging talent discussing the future of grime, while another features an interview with Jammer from the legendary Dungeon, where the seminal MC battle series Lord Of The Mics was filmed. There's also old footage of Skepta and DJ Slimzee. "Grime is a culture in itself and uniquely houses London's attitude and DIY spirit," said Keefe. "In two decades, it has given so much back, not only to the city, but to an international audience. Grime's influence has changed music forever." Grime Stories: From The Corner To The Mainstream will be free and open every day from 10 AM through 5 PM. Check the Museum of London website for more info, and revisit our Snapshot feature with Keefe. Here are some pictures from the exhibition.
