  • Loraine James and multimedia artist Rebecca Smith have collaborated on a new audiovisual installation. The installation is part of All Things Equal, an upcoming event hosted by creative music charity Brighter Sound on International Women's Day (March 8th) at Depot Mayfield in Manchester. The purpose of the event is to launch a new manifesto for gender equality in the music industry. The manifesto is the result of five years working on Brighter Sound's Both Sides Now initiative, which seeks long-lasting change around roles, representation and recognition of women and people of marginalised genders in music. An open letter shares the findings and recommendations from the manifesto, which is split into five key areas: education, talent development, live music, parenthood and leadership. At the launch party on March 8th, Smith's installation will be on display, accompanied by James's custom soundtrack and a spoken word piece by Princess Arinola Adegbite. "This was such a unique opportunity to explore music in a different context and develop ideas alongside a visual artist," James said. "I'm so excited to see how they work together." Running from 7 PM through midnight, the launch will also feature a lineup of DJs, including Girls Don't Sync and Shannen SP. Watch a trailer for All Things Equal.
