Fans of celebrated composer Ryuichi Sakamoto can now buy piano sheet music of his classic works.
The artist, who just turned 70, recently launched a virtual store to sell piano scores used in his live concerts. Ten compositions are currently available, including hits such as "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" and "High Heels." This week, Sakamoto added two new scores—one written for MUJI's 40th anniversary campaign and "Parolibre" from his 1986 album Futurista. While each piece is written for a solo piano, they can be played on any instrument, Sakamoto said on the store's website.
The store opened as a means for the veteran pianist to document his work. By publishing his scores, he hopes to end the "flood of independent transcriptions [and] arranged versions with the wrong notes and harmonies," the store website states.
