  • In the week ending December 23rd, 2.11 million vinyl LPs were sold—the highest numbers the format has seen since music sales data company MRC Data started tracking album sales in 1991. The new record surpasses the series of back-to-back record-breaking high vinyl sales experienced in the last months of 2020. These newest figures were driven by the holiday season, as well as major album releases from mainstream pop artists Adele, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, Pitchfork reports. Vinyl sales have been trending upward all year, with 19.2 million vinyl albums sold during the first half of 2021, up 108 percent from the same period last year. Read the full report on Billboard.
