  • Three months after England ditched plans to enforce vaccine passports at nightclubs, UK prime minister Boris Johnson has reintroduced the measure. Speaking to the public on Wednesday, December 8th, Johnson announced fresh restrictions for England under a program called Plan B to limit the spread of the Omicron Covid-19 variant. The new rules require proof of full vaccination or a negative lateral flow test result for all nightclubs, indoor venues with more than 500 people, outdoor venues with more than 4,000 people and any venue with more than 10,000 people. It's set to take effect sometime next week. Other regulations announced on Wednesday include wearing face masks in public venues such as cinemas, and guidance to work from home when possible. In September, England decided to scrap mandatory vaccine passports for nightclubs and large events despite proposing the measure in earlier months. Wales and Scotland, on the other hand, enforced their own proof-of-vaccine rules starting in October. Correction, December 9th: The headline has been updated to reflect the fact that a negative lateral flow test will also be accepted for entry into nightclubs.
