  • Sanna Marin, the prime minister of Finland, has publicly apologised for going to a nightclub having knowingly been exposed to Covid-19, the BBC reports. Shortly after her foreign minister had tested positive for the virus on Saturday, December 4th, Marin attended a club in Helsinki called Butchers. "I know that Sanna likes to party and sometimes it can be hard to stay home with all the fun stuff happening," Joni Lindroos, cofounder of Helsinki club Post Bar, told Resident Advisor. "But I think anyone who knows that they have recently been in contact with a person who has Covid-19 should stay at home. No excuses. We're all in this together and we need to be responsible to be able to continue going to parties." Finland's Covid-19 guidelines state that anyone who is fully vaccinated isn't required to self isolate if they come into contact with a positive case. However, the guidelines also encourage people to voluntarily avoid contact with others where possible until it's possible to take a test. According to the Helsinki Times, a text message was sent from government officials asking anyone who had come into contact with the foreign minister to avoid contact with anyone else until further notice. Marin didn't receive the message until Sunday, December 5th, as it was sent to her work phone. Once she received it, she immediately sought a test, which came back negative. The BBC reports that Finland has recently recorded eight cases of the Omicron variant, as cases in the country continue to rise. Photo: Sanna Marin on Facebook
