  • Delia Beatriz, AKA Debit, has announced her second album. Fusing ambient and electro-acoustic textures into beatless compositions, The Long Count was sourced from the sounds of pre-hispanic Mexican instruments that date back to the Mayan civilization. Using machine learning and inspiration from musique concrète, Beatriz created compositions based on whistles, ocarinas, flutes and other wind instruments from the archives of the Mayan Studies Institute at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
Available digitally and on vinyl from February 18th via Modern Love, The Long Count is the latest result of Beatriz's explorations in Mexican history. Her 2019 EP, SYSTEM, was rooted in Mayan languages and tribal guarachero, a local genre of dance music. Listen to "2nd Day" off the new album.
