Carnegie Hall is presenting a two-month-long festival that explores Afrofuturism through electronic music.
Happening across February and March next year around New York, it features live shows by Sun Ra Arkestra with Kelsey Lu and Moor Mother, Carl Craig Synthesiser Ensemble, Flying Lotus, trumpet player Theo Croker, flutist Nicole Mitchell and clarinetist Angel Bat Dawid. The programming covers a range of styles, including jazz, funk, R&B, Afrobeat and hip-hop.
In addition to music, the festival will also touch on African and African diasporic philosophies, speculative fiction, mythology, comics, quantum physics, cosmology and technology through educational programs, film screenings, exhibitions and discussions.
The event was curated by experts in the field such as King Britt, who teaches a course on Afrofuturism in electronic music at the University of California San Diego.
