  • North London club The Cause is closing for good in January 2022. The final party, dubbed Goodbye Sweetheart, will run from 1 PM on New Year's Eve through 1 PM on New Year's Day. As always with The Cause's bigger shows, the lineup will remain under wraps. Though the Tottenham venue was always a temporary project, it's closing now because of increased development in the surrounding area. Back in September, the team announced that "the writing really is on the wall." Rather than being forced out, the team is ending on its own terms. "Not in our wildest dreams did we ever believe The Cause would have achieved so much in our time at Ashley Road," says cofounder Stuart Glen. "The community that surrounds our club is like nothing else in the country. We've developed several grass-roots artists and promoters, raised a huge amount for charity and created what many people constantly tell me is the best club in London. There really is nowhere like it right now and as sad as I am to see it go, I'm much more thankful that we actually made it happen. Big love to everyone who played their part." For Glen, a standout moment was The Cause's first birthday. "We decided not to announce the lineup but had ten unannounced guests playing," he told Resident Advisor. "DJ Deeon played the terrace, Gerd Janson in the cage. It was a nice surprise for everyone [and it] paved the way for us not announcing lineups, and made us realise just how much value the club had. It felt people respected us and trusted what we do." Since opening in January 2018, The Cause has raised over £150,000 for charity. It also grew from a single, 400-capacity room into a sprawling complex with seven indoor and three outdoor spaces. More than 220,000 party goers have attended since it opened.
