  • War Child is launching a new fundraising platform, The Right To Dance. Founded in 1995, War Child aids the safety and recovery of children impacted by war. Powered by the dance music community, The Right To Dance will operate on a subscription basis to raise funds for the charity, which operates internationally out of the UK, Holland and Canada. Subscriptions, which start from £3 per month, will give access to tickets, new music and mixes, merch drops and other discounts from companies including Audio-Technica and Juno Records. The Right To Dance will also host original content on the site, including a monthly mix series. The first instalment is by DJ Lag. "War Child has always understood the music space well and this specific campaign has an electronic music focus which felt like a very honest fit," DJ Lag said. "Obviously the organisation is doing amazing work with children and young people around the world and to be part of those efforts is truly a privilege." To celebrate the launch, a Yemen Emergency Fundraiser will take place at Oval Space and The Pickle Factory on Sunday, December 5th, in partnership with We Out Here Festival and Foundation FM. Highlights at Oval Space include back-to-backs from Floating Points and Jossy Mitsu, and Shy One and Alexander Nut. Over at The Pickle Factory, highlights include Manara, who will play back-to-back with Zaleel, and Tash LC who will share the decks with Shannen SP. The Right To Dance members have access to exclusive £10 concession tickets via Resident Advisor. Listen to TRTD Mix 001 with DJ Lag, and watch the launch video for The Right To Dance.
On October 21st, Resident Advisor hosted a party at The Cause with War Child, Choose Love and the National Institute of Music in Kabul to raise money for the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The event raised over £21,000. Photo: Rob Jones Update, November 10th: The lineup for the Yemen Emergency Fundraiser has been added to this story.
