  • Velocity Press has published Tape Leaders: A Compendium Of Early British Electronic Music Composers. First published by Sound On Sound magazine in 2016, Ian Helliwell's book features over 100 musicians who were active in tape and electronics in the analogue era. The new edition marks the first time it's been made widely available beyond the Sound On Sound shop. Helliwell focused on a formative period for electronic music—the 1950s and '60s—and set out to document as many musicians as possible in an A-to-Z collection. Brian Eno, Janet Beat and William Burroughs all feature, as well as groups who experimented with electronic sounds, like The Beatles and White Noise. The Tape Leaders book comes with a 15-track CD of mostly unreleased early British tape and synthesizer works. For more details, visit the website. On November 8th, at The Social in London, Velocity Press is hosting an evening of books, films, talks and live music to celebrate the launch of Tape Leaders. Ian Helliwell will be in conversation with Synthesizer Evolution author Oli Freke.
