- Titled No Cash In Booth, the record calls for decriminalization of fare evasion on the New York MTA.
New Brooklyn-based label and educational initiative Eto Ano has debuted their first compilation, No Cash in Booth.
The full-length, which is out now, advocates for the decriminalization of fare evasion on the MTA via the passing of NYS Senate Bill S581 and NYS Assembly Bill A6119. It also calls for the implementation of a new selection process for NYPD commissioner, which would entail the Commissioner's position being elected by New Yorkers, rather than appointed by the Mayor.
Centering a theme of "music of resistance," the 17-track album features a host of New York producers, including Bergsonist, Phil Moffa, Ma Sha Ru, Ayesha, Tony G, Royalty (AKA Devoye) and label co-founder sspurgee himself. The record spans New York house, UKG, bass music, acid techno, ambient and more.
Proceeds from the album will be split between the National Lawyers Guild New York Chapter, which offers legal support to politically repressed activists and protestors, and The Legal Aid Society, a non-profit legal aid provider for low-income New Yorkers.
Founded by livwutang and sspurgee, Eto Ano also aims to increase transparency about the process of running a record label "by releasing account statements with each official creative release."
