  • Chicago label DJ International has unearthed a previously unreleased and never-before-heard Frankie Knuckles track. "I Want The Love Of My Own" was discovered in its original 2-inch reel-to-reel tape at the house music institution. Recorded during a studio session in the '80s, the single is believed to be one of a few unreleased Knuckles tracks from this period. Producer Eric Kupper, a longtime collaborator of the late artist, has remastered it for DJ International to deliver this October. The release is set to coincide with the 35th anniversary of Knuckles' first record, "You Can't Hide." The upcoming work will also be accompanied by remixes and merch from DJ International in partnership with The Frankie Knuckles Foundation, which will direct all proceeds to Chicago's Brave Space Alliance, a Black and trans-run LGBTQ+ center. Established in 2014, the Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports music programs in schools, queer homeless youth, AIDS research and education, among other issues. The discovery of "I Want The Love Of My Own" was announced on August 25th to coincide with Frankie Knuckles Day, which been celebrated annually in Chicago since 2004. More details about the release will be announced on DJ International's site. Check out photos of the record below.
