  • Protests against the closure of events in the Netherlands are due to take place across six Dutch cities tomorrow, Saturday, August 21st. From 2 PM to 5 PM, Unmute Us! will stage protests in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Groningen, Nijmegen and Utrecht. According to the Unmute Us! website, over 1,000 parties affiliated with the Dutch events industry are due to attend the demonstration. The organisation says the key message behind the protests is: "Stop the arbitrariness! We require that events can take place again at full capacity as of September 1st, 2021… Don't hold us down any longer!" Unmute Us! began in support of dance music festivals, but has since developed to encompass the events sector as a whole. The movement protests the fact that festivals as well as cultural and business events have been put on hold while tens of thousands of people are allowed to gather in football stadiums. At the time of writing, more than 1,500 organisations have signed in their support of the Unmute Us! message. Artists due to feature in Saturday's protest programme include DJ Bone, Joris Voorn and Sandrien. On Wednesday, August 18th, it was announced that Dutch nightclubs would have to remain closed until at least November 1st. Further details about the Unmute Us! protests can be found here.
