The Japanese composer's soundtrack is out on Milan Records July 30th.
Ryuichi Sakamoto's OST for tthe Andrew Levitas-directed film,Minimata will come out on Milan Records July 30th.
Minimata, released last February, stars Johnny Depp as Eugene Smith, an American photographer who documented the effects of mercury poisoning on residents of Minamata in Kumamoto, Japan. Sakamoto's 22-track score concludes with "One Single Voice," performed by the Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins.
"Ryuichi was my dream collaborator—he would be on any film—but on this mission in particular, there could be no one else,” the director writes in the liner notes for the double-LP edition of the soundtrack. "The music quite literally needed to represent both the absolute best of humanity as well as the worst… In my opinion, Ryuichi was able to elegantly ride this razor's edge and deliver on this concept entirely."
Milan will also handle Sakamoto's soundtrack for the new Netflix movie Beckett. That one is out August 13th.
Earlier this year, the Japanese legend was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. In a note posted to his website, Sakamoto stated "I will be living alongside cancer. But, I am hoping to make music for a little while longer."
