  • American composer Holly Herndon is allowing artists to transform audio files with a length of up to five minutes into a Holly Herndon song. Using a custom voice instrument and "digital twin" called Holly+—created by Never Before Heard Sounds—creators can upload any piece of audio, and have it sung back in Herndon's processed voice. A DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organization) will vote to approve official usage of the works created with Holly+, based on whether the creations "contribute to the value of the voice." In order to be certified, the works will first be submitted via a Zora Auction model. Once approved, 50 percent of the profit will go toward the work's creator, 40 percent will be divided amongst DAO members and the remaining 10 percent will be shared with Herndon. Only a small portion of these creations will be licensed by DAO members. "The Holly+ model creates a virtuous cycle," Herndon explains in her Mirror blog post. "I release tools to allow for the creative usage of my likeness, the best artworks and license opportunities are approved by DAO members, profit from those works will be shared amongst artists using the tools, DAO members, and a treasury to fund further development of the tools."
