Thaemlitz, the mind behind monikers like DJ Sprinkles, K-S.H.E. and G.R.R.L, brought together five friends and collaborators—including cultural theorist Laurence Rassel and artist Mark Fell—at the Shizu Community Centre near her home in Kawasaki, Japan. During three days of filming, which took place in 2018, Thaemlitz let RA into her creative and academic headspace.
"For me, the kind of worst nightmare would be ending up with a film that's somehow a construction of an artistic figure that had this singularity and a kind of growth path," Thaemlitz says. "That would be the wrong way to go about attempting to document my work."
Give Up On Hopes And Dreams is out on Tuesday, June 29th and was directed Patrick Nation. Watch the trailer below.
