Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, a folk history of the UK's free party movement is set for screens next year. An initial funding goal of €14,500 has been more than doubled by over 500 supporters. The crowdfunder ends on June 17th.
The film's organiser, Aaron Trinder, plans to have a finished version by May 2022, which marks the 30th anniversary of the infamous rave at Castlemorton. He also plans to show a work-in-progress version at the In-Edit film festival in Barcelona this November.
The documentary will chart "the free party movement's birth, its rapid rise and how the state tried to crush it," using stories and footage from many of the scene's key figures. The project has been ongoing for around three years already, collaborating with rave crews like Spiral Tribe, Sugarlump and Bedlam, as well as artists such as Chris Liberator, Charlie Hall and recent Art Of DJing subject Colin Dale.
