SVBKVLT's newest release comes from Yen Tech, a Korean-American artist based in Shanghai.
Spanning ten tracks, Assembler arrives on May 28th and marks the Korean-American artist's second full-length. The LP explores themes of existentialism and science fiction. The music was created "as a type of self -mposed simulation, an invisible boundary that the narrator has to navigate out of the move forward," Yen Tech, real name Nick Newlin, described in a statement.
"It was a way of looking at how we may carry the issues and failures of the past with us into the future. The psychological baggage of history, the guilt of geotrauma, the addictive melange of technology all become dealt with in this stage of acceptance and recovery. I wrote the album with this in mind, a process to find the slimy pearl of who we are."
Assembler follows his 2016 debut album, Mobis, which also came out on SVBKVLT. Newlin has previously performed at Unsound's 2019 festival as part of a SVBKVLT showcase. For more on the genre-defying label, revisit Andrew Ryce's feature from last year.
