  • Footwork innovator DJ Manny will release a new album, Signals In My Head, on Planet Mu this summer. The 12-track LP continues to advance footwork—the regional Chicago genre that Manny helped bring to the world alongside DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn—while also touching on drum & bass, Detroit techno and Chicago house. In a press statement, the Brooklyn-based artist said he sought "to do something that nobody (in footwork) had ever done before, which is an R&B love type of album but still keeping it footwork, juke, house, techno, with a few breaks." Planet Mu helped popularise footwork globally with the seminal Bangs & Works compilation series. Manny appeared on the label's 2011 compilation, Ghettoteknitianz. In the meantime, he's released with Teklife, Aeronema, Hoko Sounds as well as put out a number of LPs himself, including The Vault from earlier this year.
