- The double A-side from the broken beat pioneer kicks off the new imprint from the respected booking agency.
Booking agency and collective Sounds Familiar is officially a label.
Starting this month, the Italian platform will roll out a series of 7-inch records called 7 Inch Nails, which features a range of established and up-and-coming talents. The first instalment comes from broken beat pioneer Kaidi Tatham, who will release "Feeling Happy / Sooner or Later" on May 14th. Incorporating jazz, soul and Latin grooves, the double A-side and will be out on vinyl as well as digitally.
Sounds Familiar told RA its plans for a label have been in the works fo "a long, long time." The concept of 7-inch releases originated in 2013 when the team encouraged Sadar Bahar, one of the artists on its booking roster alongside Carista, Dego and DJ Spinna, to celebrate his birthday with the release of a 7-inch.
Sounds Familiar has since worked with other labels to release 45s from the likes of Danny Krivit, Volcov, Patrick Gibin, Specter and Mark Grusane. In 2018, it also partnered with Salsoul Records on a release featuring Sounds Familiar artists remixing material from the legendary disco label.
