  • Joakim has crafted a new LP using field recordings of jungle animals, earthquake frequencies and various other natural sounds. Second Nature, a 16-track album, arrives on August 27th via the French producer's own Tigersushi label. The album samples a range of critters that include the Mexican howler monkey, whales, goats, grasshoppers, snakes and a grizzly bear. Sounds of the Kenyan savannah, electro-magnetic storms, glaciers and meteors are also incorporated. Rather than showcase these samples in their original form, Joakim chose to manipulate and process them. "This new album is about giving back a voice to Nature, to re-establish a continuity between the human and nature, beyond the classic Western opposition of nature vs culture, it's about re-enchanting our world," Joakim explained in a statement. He aims to "re-establish a dialogue, question our way of thinking and listening and blur the lines between the natural and the artificial." Second Nature, which will later be transformed into a sound and video installation, also features jazz musicians such as Angel Bat Dawid and Isaiah Collier in addition to Taiwanese artist Yutie Lee.
