- crystallise, a frozen eye will land on the Berlin label on May 7th, 2021.
Up next on Subtext is an LP from the label's head, James Ginzburg.
crystallise, a frozen eye was written in fall 2020 and addresses themes of isolation, mortality and safety. The new LP from the Berlin artist, who also performs as one half of Emptyset with Paul Purgas, is due out on May 7th, 2021 alongside a chapbook detailing the album's themes.
The record contains eleven tracks, and was primarily composed with acoustic instruments: an acoustic guitar, Daf drum, Appalachian dulcimer, psaltery, shruti box and a bespoke string instrument that was originally created for Emptyset's 2017 Borders album. Otherwise, the only electronic gear used was an analog synthesizer.
Berlin-based producer James Ginzburg founded Subtext in 2004. Recent Emptyset album's include 2019's Blossoms and 2017's Skin.
