  • John Keaka Friend, a former manager of San Francisco record shop Open Mind Music, has shared details of his first full-length. Released under his alias TRIP SHOW, The Far East Is The Near West And The Wild West Is The Near East spans eight tracks that touch on house, dub and ambient. Influenced by Pépé Bradock, Easy Street Records and bleep techno, the LP arrives on June 5th via Broken Clover Records. “I tried to make the kind of record that wouldn't leave my bag," Friend described in a press statement. Now based in Honolulu, the artist was previously active in San Francisco's electronic scene. In addition to managing Open Mind Music from 1995 to 2005, he also DJ'd as JOHNJOHN and worked at Pulse Soniq Distribution.
