- Scott Morgan used a short orchestral recording as the basis for the ten-track LP, out in late May.
Canadian ambient composer Loscil will release a new album, Clara, on Kranky.
The ten-track LP, Scott Morgan's tenth for Kranky, was inspired by a three-minute recording by a 22-piece string orchestra. Morgan made a lathe cut of the recording which he then "scratched and abused" to create new sonic textures that form the foundation of Clara.
Featuring drone and nature-influenced sounds, Clara derives its name from the Latin word for bright and is meant to be a reflection on "light, shade, and decay." The lead single "Vespara" includes a music video featuring shots of liquid textures.
The forthcoming LP follows Morgan's 2020 EP Faults, Coasts, Lines. His last full-length was the self-released Adrift, from April last year. To understand how Morgan's roots in the Pacific Northwest region influence his productions, revisit our 2015 profile on the experimental talent.
