  • Ballroom icon Vjuan Allure has died. Social media posts from sources close to the D.C.-based artist began circulating earlier today, March 16th, though there isn't an official statement yet or details on the circumstances. Allure was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York. He got his clubbing education with the vogue and house dancers at Sound Factory, before starting to DJ while studying in Italy. He was among the first artists to make music specifically for the ballroom, and is best known for "Allure Ha," a 2000 rework of Masters At Work's "The Ha Dance." Intent on pushing the sound and dancing of the balls forward, Allure created the Ballroom Beatz genre, releasing originals and remixes with the vocal tag "This is a Vjuan Allure Magnifique Elite Beat." His productions and battle-style DJ performances have impacted many artists worldwide. He made a point of championing the original icons of vogue, collaborating with RuPaul in recent years while becoming an icon of the scene himself. Tributes have been pouring in from the music and dance community. Read some of them, and revisit Allure's RA Exchange from last year.
