  • British-Nigerian DJ Juba has a new podcast about the personal journeys of women-identifying DJs around the developing world. The Assurance Podcast is a six-part series that goes beyond current conversations around gender imbalances in the music industry, Juba told Resident Advisor. In each episode, guests will discuss their respective city's music scene and the various social, political and economic factors that impact artist careers. First up is Kampire from the Kamapala-based collective Nyege Nyege. Called "Twerk In Peace With Kampire," the conversation covers Ugandan politics, the challenges of throwing LGBTQ+ events and mobility for African artists. Guests for future episodes include BADSISTA, Beirut-based Liliane Chlela and Valesuchi. The podcast is a follow-up to Juba's 2020 documentary, also called Assurance, which delved deep into the experiences of Nigeria's female DJs. Listen to "Twerk In Peace With Kampire" and today's second episode with Valesuchi.
