  • In:Depth is a new online video series that documents music scenes around Japan. So far, two seasons have been announced. Each season focuses on a different region and consists of 100-minute episodes that profile a particular venue. The series aims to spotlight owners, artists and other key players as well as performances. The first season, spanning four episodes, concentrates on the cities of Tokyo and Nakano. It features clubs Forestlimit, SHeLTeR (included in our 2019 documentary on listening bars), record store Lighthouse and live music venue heavysick ZERO. Highlighted artists include Chee Shimizu, Nick the Record, Kenji Takimi and Vladimir Ivkovic. In:Depth's second season is set in Kyushu, one of Japan’s main islands. It showcases Fukuoka club Kieth Flack, local music stores Kalavinka and Sextans in addition to Kumamoto-based nightclub Navaro. Ticketed live streaming kicked off last week with the Forestlimit episode. Episodes cost around $9 to stream and are available to archive. The next available episode (on heavysick ZERO) premieres later this month, followed by the SHeLTeR feature in April. All profits from ticket sales will go to artists and venues.
