  • Spotify has announced a new tier of their streaming service called Spotify Hi-Fi. The new plan was announced today during Spotify's Stream On livestream. Though a release date hasn't been announced yet, it's expected later this year. According to The Verge, the plan "will deliver music in CD-quality, lossless audio format to your device and Spotify Connect-enabled speakers, which means fans will be able to experience more depth and clarity while enjoying their favorite tracks." The platform's new development follows in the footsteps of streaming service Tidal, which offers a plan featuring lossless streaming for $19.99 a month. In 2019, Amazon similarly launched a new tier of their music service, Amazon Music HD, which is available at $12.99 per month for Prime members and $14.99 each month for those who are only Amazon Music customers. Spotify's latest announcement also follows news of the streaming service's new US patent to utilize users' speech to determine music preferences.
