  • DAWN has shared the first single off her upcoming album, Second Line. Just under four minutes long, "Bussifame" drawn on R&B and pop. Out today, it's accompanied by a music video directed by the artist herself. The rest of the LP arrives on April 30th via Merge Records, the North Carolina-based label that DAWN, whose real name is Dawn Richard, joined last month. In a statement on Merge's website, the veteran producer explained the track's meaning: "The term 'bussifame' is a nod to the way New Orleanians run our words together when we speak ('bust it for me'). 'Bussifame' is a dance anthem celebrating New Orleans second line footwork and second line culture; it's a request to move your feet no matter where you are in the world. A pandemic won't stop the parade!" Spanning 16 tracks, Second Line is DAWN's first full-length work since 2019's New Breed. Read our review of that LP. In her statement, she described the work as “a movement to bring pioneering Black women in electronic music to the forefront.” Listen to "Bussifame."
