  • The Dutch government has announced a scheme allowing festivals to schedule 2021 dates from July 1st onward. The plan relies on a recently-established €300M event cancellation fund insuring festivals, business fairs and sporting events scheduled from July onwards. The fund will cover events attracting a minimum of 3,000 visitors from July 1st through the end of the year, Mixmag reported. "[This fund] is a dot on the horizon for festival organizers. They can fall back on the guarantee fund in which at least €300m has been reserved," said Dutch culture minister Ingrid van Engelshoven. "The event industry has long come to a standstill due to Corona. Guarantee is needed to get it back on track." Large-scale Dutch dance music festivals like Dekmantel, Awakenings and DGTL Amsterdam are currently scheduled to take place over the summer and fall. The Dutch government's move follows the German government's announcement of a €2.5 billion fund for cancelled events.
