- The group consisted of Valentina Magaletti and the late multi-instrumentalist Tom Relleen.
Tomaga will release its final album, Intimate Immensity, via Hands In The Dark on March 26th.
The London experimental project comprised the rising percussionist Valentina Magaletti and Tom Relleen, who died of stomach cancer in August. "We rushed to master the album in his final days because the release was important to him," Magaletti told The Quietus.
The ten-track Intimate Immensity now has an official release date. The LP, Tomaga's eighth and final, is a characteristically diverse affair, integrating Buchla, field recordings, Mellotron and guest spots from the likes of Agathe Max (violin), Cathy Lucas and Martin Tomlinson. The record was recorded at Tom's house, which he referred to as the "bunker," and was inspired by the likes of Kenneth Anger and Gaston Bachelard.
"I just found an interesting book by Gaston Bachelard called The Poetics of Space," Relleen wrote, "with chapters on 'house as universe,' nests, shells, 'intimate immensity,' 'the phenomenology of roundness'... I think it ties in with our feelings about bunkers and the urge to partition the universe to create our own spaces, versus cleansing or colonising the everyday to make it empty of anyone else's taste. I think Tomaga tracks with their individual micro worlds are a bit like that…"
