  • As part of our new Re-record feature focusing on Black artists in electronic music from 2001 through 2020, we're doing a week-long Mix Of The Day takeover. Carlos Souffront is widely considered one of the best DJs in America, not only by patrons but also by his peers. Souffront's nine-year run hosting Crush Collision, a long-running electronic-based college radio show on Ann Arbor's WCBN 88.3FM, raised his local legend status. Over the years his sets at No Way Back have become something of a right of passage for hardcore party goers in their yearly pilgrimages to Movement. In fact, it was Souffront that made the Interdimensional Transmissions crew stretch the party to its 12-hour limit. In 2011 he relocated to San Francisco where he has influenced the bay area's growing scene. Souffront is also known as a master of fine cheese. This mix is a voiceover-free version of a set recorded for WCBN radio in 2000, a chance to hear Souffront in his earlier days. You'll find he was always a master of the craft.
