  • Seoul club Cakeshop is starting its own label. Carousel Records will launch on March 12th with 8 Years Of Cakeshop, a digital compilation featuring regional and international names. These include Ase Manual, DJ Lag, Scratcha DVA under his Scratchclart alias, Jubilee, DJ Python, Japanese artist WRACK and Hong Kong's Kelvin T. The new venture will be curated in a similar way to the club, founders Samuel Swanson and Nevin Hendrickson told Resident Advisor. "The synthesis that has formed through our club nights shows that when a dialogue is formed between emerging cultures, a shift can occur," they said. "We wish to capture that shift through our label." The label's name is a nod to the moving wheels of a carousel, which represents "diversity, motion, fluidity and culture in flux," they added. Cakeshop was mostly closed for all of last year and remains shut due to pandemic-related restrictions. Listen to "Nothing Left For Me" by Letta featuring YEHAIYAHAN.
