  • Refuge Worldwide, a new online radio platform based in Berlin, is launching on Wednesday, January 20th. Born from the Refuge charity parties, which have been running in Berlin since 2015, the community platform bills itself as a "home for music and conversation," with programming spanning dance music, politics, sexuality, sustainability and plenty more besides. "Since 2015 the Refuge collective has been working in solidarity with NGO, non-profit and grassroots groups," says cofounder George Patrick. "The new Refuge Worldwide website will not only be a community platform but it will help to connect people with grassroots organisations and improve our fundraising efforts." Programmed by Patrick and three others—Ell Weston, Janneke Hulshof and RA staffer Richard Akingbehin—Refuge Worldwide will run four days a week for the time being, with shows hosted by a mix of guests, labels, collectives, magazines and residents, including Sally C, Monty Luke, Kate Miller, Resom, Angel D'lite and Steve Bicknell. "The music policy is diverse, from hip-hop to house, new wave to northern soul, reggae to R&B, ambient to IDM," adds Patrick. Refuge Worldwide will run remotely, with the aim to move to a physical space at some point in 2021. Fans can support the project via Patreon. Browse the website. Photo credit: Chihiro Lia Ottsu
