- The LP, which blends Pakistani and UK new wave sounds, was originally released in 1985.
Discostan, the Los Angeles-based party and DJ collective focusing on music from the Subcontinent, the Arab world and Southwest Asia, will launch a label with a reissue of Nermin Niazi and Feisal Mosleh's Disco Se Aagay.
The ten-track LP, originally released in 1984, saw two teenage musicians—Nermin Niazi and Feisal Mosleh—interweaving their Pakistani musical heritage with the prevailing British new wave sounds of the day. Niazi, just 14 years old at the time, sang in Urdu while her brother integrated Hindustani melodic scales into his synth and drum machine experiments.
After tours in the UK and Pakistan, and respective British and Indian pressings of Disco Se Aagay, the album faded from view, cherished as a cult classic among Pakistani pop fans and record diggers. Discostan's remastered reissue, out this month, was completed in full partnership with the artists. It's the latest venture from Discostan's Arshia Fatima Haq and Jeremy Loudenback, who have hosted parties and radio shows out of LA for a decade, focusing on music from the Subcontinent, the Arab world and Southwest Asia.
