- The label's first soundtrack release is out next month.
Hyperdub is releasing the soundtrack to a visual work by Lawrence Lek in November.
AIDOL 爱道 premiered at the Sadie Coles HQ gallery last year, and has appeared at other exhibitions and festivals since. The work is a continuation of Lek's "sinofuturist" universe, focusing on themes of China's global ascent, artificial intelligence and technology. AIDOL 爱道 is the third chapter, about a "fading superstar" named Diva who hires an AI songwriter for a comeback performance.
The soundtrack features Hyperdub founder Kode9 playing an "unforgiving label boss," along with spoken word from Sophie Guo, Xiaoyi Nie, Xiaoran Wu and Joni Zhu. Diva's voice, meanwhile, was created with a vocaloid vocal synthesizer, and several songs were made in partnership with composer Seth Scott.
The album will come on vinyl as well as a limited-edition USB stick, with bilingual lyric sheets.
Watch the video for album track "Unreal," which is adapted from the longer video installation (which you can view in full until October 18th here).
