Dominick Fernow's Hospital Productions has announced major reissues from Downwards cofounder Female and the legendary Canadian industrial techno project Orphx.
Pleasures That Kill is a five-CD box set compiling nearly every solo Female track and record released on the influential labels he's had a hand in over the years—Downwards and Sandwell District. Hospital notes the stark minimalism felt across the 40-track set, where "the bare building blocks" of techno are often all that's provided. For the reissue, the tracks were transferred from the original vinyl records with audiophile needles, then mastered by Justin Broadrick. The set includes an unreleased live collaboration with Regis from 2000.
Friday also sees Hospital releasing a quadruple-LP vinyl reissue of Orphx's third album, Fragmentation, originally released in 1996 of Malignant Records. Recorded three years after Rich Oddie, Christina Sealey and Aron West founded the long-running project—and after West left the group—Fragmentation sees the group moulding their abrasive industrial and power electronics-informed sound into rhythmic structures. The reissue comprises an hour of rare and unreleased recordings including compilation tracks, cuts from 1996's Obsession And Progress cassette, 1997's Final Moments cassette and contemporaneous live recordings. Fragmentation, remastered by Telefon Tel Aviv's Josh Eustis, will be released as an edition of 290 copies on clear vinyl.
