The innovative Ibiza DJ Jose Padilla has been diagnosed with cancer and has launched a GoFundMe to cover his living expenses.
"Some days ago I was taken to hospital and I have been diagnosed with colon cancer and now I am waiting for an operation," Padilla wrote. "My situation is very bad, I am completely broke after five months with no income whatsoever and no way to pay my rent, so humbly I ask if you can help me with your donations."
Padilla traveled to Ibiza in 1976, acquiring residencies and playing 10-hour sets that would help birth the Balearic sound. He's widely credited as an architect of the chill-out sound, thanks to his famed Café Del Mar residency and the spin-off mix series. In 2015, Padilla worked with International Feel head Mark Barrott, Telephones, Tornado Wallace and Jan Schulte on an album called So Many Colours. Around that time he sat for an RA Exchange podcast with Carlos Hawthorn.
