- The first LP from Adrian Sherwood's daughter features contributions from Lee "Scratch" Perry, Mala and Adrian himself.
Denise Sherwood is making her solo debut on Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound label and Evergreen Recordings.
Comprising eleven tracks, This Road is a highly personal album touching on dub, reggae and trip-hop. The record was composed with contributions from father Adrian Sherwood, Lee "Scratch" Perry and Mala, as well as posthumous recordings from Jamaican reggae drummer Style Scott.
Sherwood describes her upbringing as a musician's daughter as a key influence for her music. "There was always music around me. I was always having dinner with different artists. The house was full of people. Loads of parties," she says. "But creative types can be unstable too, which I sometimes found scary and confusing as a child. This is where the sadder elements in my music originate from."
Previously appearing on On-U Sound's Pay It All Back Vol. 7 compilation last year, and less recently on On-U Sound Live In Warsaw 2004, Denise Sherwood has an extensive history with the UK imprint. The forthcoming album is out on October 2nd.
