- They'll try to retain as many 2020 artists as possible for next year's edition.
Barcelona's Sónar Festival and its adjacent event OFFSónar will not be happening this year.
The long-running main event Sónar announced Friday, May 8th, that it would be postponed until 2021 due ongoing restrictions around the pandemic. The new dates are June 17th through 19th. In a statement, Sónar said that they were working to reschedule most artists and events planned for this year, in order to keep the 2021 lineup as close to the planned 2020 festival as possible. (Artists booked for Sónar 2020 included Avalon Emerson, TNGHT, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Arca, The Black Madonna and many more.)
The complementary OFFSónar series has also been postponed—to June 17th to 20th, 2021—according to a later May 8th statement. Like Sónar 2021, much of OFFSónar's 2020 lineup is already confirmed to carry over to next year, including hosts Innervisions, Circoloco, Detroit Love and more.
Sónar's technology conference, Sónar+D, will take place as a special online edition called Sónar+D CCCB at its original location this September, with a focus on projects inspired by "our current cultural context."
