  • Jon Hopkins has a new Meditations series on Domino. The first piece, "Singing Bowl (Ascension)," was made with recordings of a 100-year-old singing bowl. The 21-minute piece evolved from a sound installation he composed for Helsinki Arts Festival last year. "Like so many people I felt pretty paralysed by this situation when it first unfolded," Hopkins says of his mindset behind creating this series. "All my plans for the year were cancelled, and everything felt so weird and dreamlike. But gradually I found I wanted to create something—to find peace and perspective through making music, as I have always done." Hopkins has also curated a 24-hour-long Spotify playlist called Quiet, which features Donato Dozzy, Umfang, Julianna Barwick, Laraaji and more. Here's a visualizer featuring a clip of the piece, and listen to the track in full via Spotify.
