Ireland's Roadmap For Reopening Society & Business may be the first government coronavirus recovery plan to specifically address music festivals.
The Irish government's 23-page document details five phases. Phase one—essentially strict social distancing with an allowance for small groups of four people to socialize at a distance outdoors—begins on May 18th. Each phase could last as little as three weeks, with "potential reintroduction of measures if an upsurge in disease occurs."
However, phase five goes beyond even Spain's recent measures allowing seated open-air events. The final phase in Ireland's Roadmap... could begin as soon as August 10th and allows for "festivals, events and other social mass gatherings... where social distancing can be complied with."
This could mean Ireland's Electric Picnic Festival—a large-scale outdoor event which currently features the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Bicep and Jeff Mills—might potentially happen in early September, reports NME.
Whether Ireland hits its benchmarks or its proposed guidelines influence other countries' reopening plans remains to be seen.
