- Field Works Ultrasonic—featuring field recordings of the Indiana bat—is out on Temporary Residence in May.
Field Works' Ultrasonic, a compilation album building off of Stuart Hyatt's field recordings of the endangered Indiana bat, is out on Temporary Residence Limited May 1st.
For the latest in the Field Works series, Hyatt's recordings of the echolocations of bats were given to the likes of Mary Lattimore, JAB (John Also Bennett), Félicia Atkinson, Sarah Davachi, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Taylor Deupree, Kelly Moran and more.
"Stuart sent me a folder with dozens and dozens of bat samples," Moran said, "and I combed through all of the sounds until I found one that resonated with me. It was this gentle, rhythmic pulse, and I realized I could use the rhythm as a basis for the piece."
Hyatt's field recordings have been used for seven previous compilations. Previous Field Works artists include The Field, Visible Cloaks and Katilyn Aurelia Smith.
Listen to Kelly Moran's "Sodalis."
